The New Zealand Card Index began in the 1950s and closed in 1996. It indexes a range of sources including local and national newspapers, New Zealand periodicals, and books.
The main geographical focus is Auckland, but other New Zealand material is also included. The subject matter focuses on people, places and organisations. The index includes references to information on Auckland buildings, businesses and places, as well as obituaries, death notices and marriage notices, from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. There are 416,544 records in the collection.
The New Zealand Card Index records on The Knowledge Basket may have in some cases abbreviations used to note the source indexed. In most cases, we expanded these in the record, but you may need to look at:
